Six reasons why we love contemporary interior design

At James Lawrenson Interiors we have experienced working in all sorts of buildings, from barn conversions to new build projects and we love the variety. However, we do have a real passion for contemporary interior designs, the elements of which are at the core of everything we do. Our interior designers will work with old and new interior furnishings along with statement artwork within your space. Here are our reasons to love contemporary interior designs:

At the heart of contemporary interior design is a desire to ever evolve, and we love this idea as it pushes the boundaries, never being stuck in the same aesthetic and constantly changing to reflect the times.

Using a simple colour palette is reflective of the style, with colour introduced in interior furnishings such as statement artwork, accessories or cushioning. We like to use neutral tones in our schemes and these compliment a contemporary area where the space is effortlessly calm and clutter free.

There is an opportunity to mix old and new together with this style. In recent years the fashion has been to expand older properties with contemporary extensions, juxtaposing the two styles, providing unusual spaces and ultimately adding interest to the building. Marrying the old and the new in a cohesive way to reflect the building provides a great challenge for any Interior Designer. It is vital to consider the flow of the space, and using a mix of old and new interior furnishings can achieve this.

The evolving nature of the contemporary design means that you can throw out the rule book and put your own mark on your space. Injecting your own style is very important, allowing you to reflect your personality in your living and/or work space, small design details can make all the difference.

The nature of the contemporary design provides spaces to showcase special pieces like statement artwork. Small alcoves, shelving or key pieces of furniture provide a fantastic opportunity to show off pieces of art work, whether that be a sculpture, ceramic piece or hung canvas. The contemporary style suits someone with a collection of special pieces, as these are the items that really sing in the space. We love to work with clients own pieces, adding the necessary items around these to create a complete scheme.

With so many brands producing wonderful contemporary interior furnishings, we are spoilt for choice for our interior schemes and this provides endless opportunities to create the luxurious look we are known for.
